On the news tonight, cities in Florida are cutting out 4th of July fireworks out of their budgets. Finally....some common sense! Cities admit that they spend as much as $40,000 for fireworks displays every 4th of July. That's rediculous! City and County Taxes are driving people to sell their homes and move out of Florida while cities and counties are using $40,000 of people's tax money for fireworks displays.
With the state goverment ordering cities and counties to lower taxes, cites and counties are finally tightening their belts and stopping this needless and senseless use of taxpayers money which only goes up in smoke in less than hour.
People should find another way to celebrate the 4th of July. They can start by teaching kids n school what Independence Day is all about and why we celebrate it. It's not about lighting sparklers, firecrackers and cherry bombs which is what they think. Ask most school kids what the significance of the year 1776 is and see if they can give you an answer. They know as much about Independence Day as they know about Memorial Day and Veterans Day. "NOTHING"
Beside, every year you read the headlines on July 5th about how many kids got burned and lost their fingers and eyesight because of mishandling firecrackers. Even professional displays have their tragic occurance every year.
Every city has a homeless problem. Here in Clearwater the police went around and cut up tents which the homeless slept in and they were made to move on to sleep under some overpass. How does that same city justify spending $40,000 on a fireworks display? Ludicrous I say.......just lucicrous!
