THANKS FOR THE WEBSITE I STARTED IN 1961 AFTER THE ACADEMY AT THE 42 PCT. AFTER 3 YEARS I GOT TRANSFERRED TO THE 25 PCT IN HARLEM WAS PROMOTED TO DETECTIVE APR. 1966 AFTER 5 YEARS ON THE JOB, INTO THE NARCOTICS BUREAU WORKING THE THREE HARLEM PERECINCTS. 25PCT, 28PCT, 32PCT.
AFTER A NUMBER OF YEARS I WAS TRANSFERRED BACK TO THE BRONX INTO THE BOROUGH ROBBERY SQUAD WE COVERED BANK ROBBERYS, ARMORED CAR ROBBERYS AND ANY BIG ROBBERY EVERYTHING BUT STREET ROBBERYS. I WORKED ROBBERY CASES IN EVERY BRONX PRECINCT. MY OFFICE WAS IN THE NEW 48 PCT UNDER THE CROSS BX EXPRESSWAY. AT THAT TIME THE BLACK LIBERATION ARMY WAS ROBBING BANKS AND MURDERING COPS. WE CARRIED SIDE BY SIDE SHOTGUNS, THE THUGS WERE SCARED WHEN THEY SAW AND HEARD THE SHOTGUN BEING SNAPPED CLOSED.
SORRY I WAS GOING ON LIKE THAT, IT BROUGHT BACK SOME HAPPY AND SOME REALLY SAD MEMORIES.

BARRY, WHERE DID YOU LIVE IN THE 42PCT. I USED TO WORK POST 35 & 36 THIRD AVE FROM 149st TO 156 ST. REAL BUSY POSTS DAY DUTY 8AM to 4PM AND 4 PM TO 12 MIDNIGHT TOURS. THEN A WAS IN A SECTOR CAR IN THAT WHOLE AREA FROM 3RD AVE EAST TO WALES AVE. I THOUGHT THAT PCT WAS BUSY TILL I WAS TRANSFERRED TO HARLEM IT WAS LIKE BEING SENT TO HELL.

I KNOW THEM ALL WELL VICKIE LAMOTTA WAS THE BARTENDER IN ONE OF THOSE JOINTS ON CORTLANDT AVE NEAR ALEX AND HENRYS. SHE WAS A BEAUTIFUL WOMAN. I THINK SHE WAS DIVORCED FROM JAKE AT THAT TIME. MY FRIEND ROCCO A ' LITTLE PERSON' USED TO PLAY DRUMS IN THE SPORTSMAN BAR. HE DIED OF FRIGHT WHILE BEING PREPPED FOR BACK SURGERY WHEN WE WENT TO THE WAKE THERE WAS OVER 600 PEOPLE PRESENT. HIM AND TWO OTHER GUYS FROM CORDLANDT AVE OWNED THE PLAYBOY BAR ON 149 ST BETWEEN MORRIS AND THE CONCOURSE.
