I received a birthday card from one of the people running for our legislature. I was appalled that they actually used a search engine to find out my personal information, and I have e-mailed them to let them know my feelings. They can just forget about my vote.
I recently contacted, by e-mail, the Lipton Soup company with some questions. A few days later I received a coupon in the mail. I did not give them my address!!!
It really scares me.

Don't you just hate when people patronize you only when it's election time?
Down here they stand on corners holding their banners "Vote For Me" waving and saying good morning and wishing you a nice day. Where are they after the election though? You never see them again! They only wish you a nice day for your vote and then you are history. Hogwash I say......Hogwash!

Wheezie, you would be amazed...no...terrified at the personal data that can be accessed right here in cyberspace! BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING!

I checked out a website someone here at BCS posted and was amazed to find a street by street map to my home; my past addresses and phone numbers. I think the site is Intelius and they gather information on everyone and anyone and publish it on their web site. I believe I just typed in my phone number and that turned on the waterfall of information. I requested that all mine and Joe's data be removed and am waiting 30 days to verify that they did eliminate our data.

I went onto Inteluis.com, and entered my first and last name. It came up with several addresses, but also the names of two of my three children, my ex-husband, my father-in-law and my brother and sister-in-law. I wasn't able to find a way to delete!! Years ago there was a site called any birthday.com where I deleted many, many listings, but they just keep popping up in other websites. Just last winter I found another website where I was able to delete information. And, yes Mike, I am terrified about what is in cyber space, but it's the world in which we live. We can only be vigilante and check our credit scores frequently to be sure our identity is not being compromised.

I just tried it and entered my brother's name. It listed everywhere he had lived and his present age of 57.
He died five years ago at age 52.
It says you have to pay for info such as background checks and present address.
Fran, you said you requested that your info be removed. Where and how on that site does it give the option to do that without having to become a club member and pay?

I just checked it also. I can't believe it had every location that I lived, names, addresses, etc.
I hope Fran continues her search re this site.
