thanks for the suggestion -- tonite we eat at a buffet restaurant
reminds me that when i started working on wall street there was a restaurant that you would order food at the counter -- eat at standup tables and you would go to the cashier and tell them what you ate and pay --- there was spotters walking around who might see what you ate and then make sure you told the cashier the truth -if you didnt they would correct you -- so you ate your food and you took your chances-- we called the place eat em and beat em

..... eat at standup tables and you would go to the cashier and tell them what you ate and pay --- there was spotters ....eat'em and beat'em Now that's NOT an obvious business model.... at least not to this Bx boy... which probably explains why I ain't rich

they are no long in business but the theory worked back in the very early 60s ---
remember the automat --- i was fascinated by that place as a kid --- especially the ladies in the center booths who could make change and throw out nickels without ever counting them ---- coffee coming from the mouth of a lion

remember the automat --- i was fascinated by that place as a kid -- Oh yeah! The automat! I loved that. It was one of those (few) yearly treats we had as kids. Others included the yearly Christmas show at Radio City, a trip to some NY landmark (Statue of Liberty, Empire State Bldg, museum), and few other day trips. The automat had great lemon meringue pie- still my favorite.
