Well I had my stress test today. The ladies doing the treadmill said I had to get my heart rate up to 134 beats per minute at 3.5 MPH. When I got to 134 beats per minute, they asked how I felt and I said fine, I do 160 beats per minute at 5.0 MPH at the Y.M.C.A. THey could hardly believe I was still breathing out of my nose instead of being out of breath and breathing out of my mouth. So they made a game of it and said let's see you do 160 beats per minute at 5.0 Mph. So they sped up the machine to 5.0 MPH and in two minutes my heart rate was at 166 beats per minute. They all shook their heads and said they rarely see a 62 year old that could sustain that speed and heart rate for that length of time and they wondered why my doctor even ordered this stress test. I told them because my brother had triple bypass surgery in December and we want to make sure it wasn't somethinjg hereditary. I"ll get the results in two weeks I guess, along with my blood test results. That takes care of doctors and tests for this year. Prayerfully, that is!

Got to admit though.......I wouldn't have been able to do it another 10 seconds. My legs were giving out. I think I'll skip the Y.M.C.A. for a couple of days.

Last stress test for me was 6 years ago about 3 months after my heart attack. Thought I was having another attack, I jumped off to the doctor's utter surprise. He said never do that again I could have gotten hurt...I said don't worry I'll never do this test again. As soon as I could breathe again I was outside smoking a cigarette so I could relax. All these tests never factor in the truck that might run us over.

Mike,
I'd rather have them induce the stress with drugs...this way I don't sweat.

I have seen them do that to Juanita , I don't recommend it because they are not realy sure how your heart will react to it. and they have to stand by with some thing in case you go to far.

I've had both types of tests, but the chem test did not leave me with the feeling that the MD was in good control. Had a number of angioplasties and a total of five stents in the ticker. Angioplasty (w/stents) have been shown to have about the same results as by-pass with a lot less pain/stress/invasiveness. I suspect that the next time will a bit more invasive, though. Still, it's amazing what they can do today, vs 40-50 years ago, when my father had a HA.
