Today the Marines parked two Amphibian Tanks in front of our Super Wal-Mart and collected toys for under-priviledged children. People bought toys in Wal-Mart and marched outside and handed them over to us.
Then each of us went in and bought toys to add to the multitude of toys. I took Chase inside and purchased two bicycles. One for a boy and one for a girl and Chase rolled one out and donated it to a Marine in uniform.
Chase asked why we were doing this and I got an opportunity to explain to him that not all children are fortunate to have gifts for Christmas and that we were donating the bikes so a boy and girl would have something nice for Christmas. It was a good lesson for Chase to know that there are children in the world that are not as fortunate as he is.
It was a great turn-out with plenty of good hearted people donating stuff for the less fortunate kids. We loaded both tanks and then had to hire a U-Haul truck to fit the rest of the toys in.
The Marines do this every season and it was great working with them this year.

What a very generous donation Lenny. You are teaching Chase a very valuable lesson.
I can only afford a small stuffed toy this year.

And believe me Wheezie....some child will cuddle that stuffed toy with a big smile on their face and aprreciate having it for Christmas. It's your thought that counts.

I forgot to mention that as kids donated toys for other kids, the Marines gave them a tour of the inside of a tank. You should have seen the wide-eyes of these kids as they climbed in to see the inside of a real tank. It's all Chase has been talking about since. Hopefully, he will remember this day of benevolence and take it into adulthood with the ideal that it is better to give than to receive.
