Ok, Im goofing around - sorry if I scared you...
But I did find this clip on Wikipedia, and made me wonder...
Don Mattingly's Future with the Yankees --------------------------------------------------------------------------- It is rumored that Yankees General Manager Brian Cashman has already picked Mattingly as his choice to replace current manager Joe Torre, whose contract expires after the 2007 season. In fact, Michael Kay, the lead play-by-play man for the YES Network says:
"From everything that I have heard the Yankees are absolutely blown away by how great Don Mattingly has been as the hitting coach, his work ethic and his level of preparedness. I think when Joe Torre leaves, the next manager will be Don Mattingly."[6]
Yankees owner George Steinbrenner has praised Mattingly as someone who "understands what it is to be a Yankee" and said he "could possibly" become the Yankees' manager.[2]

I don't think Mattingly is the right guy.

If George is FOOL enough to let Joe T. get away, I guarantee you that some of the veterans that the team needs to be competitive next season will NOT re-sign......ie: Mariano Rivera and Jorge Posada.

I hope George rethinks letting Joe Torre go. I do like Don but and if it has to be then let it be a former Yankee player.

My biggest point of contention here is "IF something is not broke...Don't fix it....Donny and Joe Girardi are talented and know the business....however....if there is no pennant in 2008 will George call for their removal.....STAY WITH A PROVEN LEADER

Barry, we finally agree on something Yankee related! I'd rather see Joe Girardi manage the Yankees, but I agree with Mike--if it aint broke-don't fix it. And it ain't broke! I think Fran has the answer...The boss has gone nutzer than he has been in the past.

Wow, ***I*** beat the news channels with the Don Mattingly rumor LOL -- Its all over the news this morning!
They did make a good point tho -- WHOEVER follows Joe Torre is going to have a hard time, and its likely they'll put up a sacrifical lamb to take the heat...

Joe T. played the hand he was dealt by Cashman and Company to the best of his ability. A new manager is not going to change anything!
