Just finished watching the first 4 episodes of the Bronx is Burning... It's pretty interesting - and I like how they mix the Yankees stuff with the other stuff going on in the city at the time... They have some great old footage in it too..
I was 10 years old in 1977 and that summer was one of the big summers of my life... It was the summer Star Wars came out, and that movie changed my perspective on life forever... And the blackout was pretty memorable too..
The Yankees stuff was interesting, but as you know i came from a Mets family, so while I knew every player on the Yankees that year thanks to my baseball cards, it didn't really influence me too much... I do remember that this is probably the year that i started hating Steinbrenner with all the negative press he got... I'm glad to see that he deserved most of it..
If you get a chance, check out this mini-series - My wife thought it would be just about baseball, but it really isn't... Its about NYC and how that summer was really memorable in NY. And its also about three people with huge egos who need each other and how they interact. My wife and I are hooked and will prob see the last 4 episodes soon....
And while Steinbrenner, Martin & Reggie are the big 3 of this movie - the rest of the cast is awesome... The actors who play Thurmond Munson and Yogi Berra are great...

I saw several episodes on ESPN earlier this year. The Son of Sam saga was pretty interesting too as I was overseas when he was running amuck in the City.

So many big things happened in NYC that Summer... You dont get years like that very often... (i guess thats a good thing LOL)
I thought i had those episodes on Tivo, but after the first episode was rescheduled without warning, i gave up on it.. Then I saw it in the store for 19.99 and picked it up...

Ok, finally finished watching the DVD's -- I highly recommend it -- even if you dont like baseball... My wife loved it and she has no baseball interest...
Its really appropriate to watch - especially now with the Joe Torre situation... To see Steinbrenner get so angry that the Yanks got swept by the Reds in 1976 makes it easy to see how he would react now...

He interferred with Billy Martin constantly and now he is doing the same thing with Joe Torre. I can understand letting him go for poor performance...but...look at the track record...this past season was awesome despite all the personnel problems.
