Was in the doctor's office today. He said almost immediately "you must be from New York" from, of course, my accent. He then proceeded to tell me he had lived in New Jersey and then started talking about that there are NO DELI'S or DINERS out here. We reminisced about New York/New Jersey and the great deli's we had and all the diners.
I remember one deli, in particular, which was in Parkchester on Metropolitan Avenue. It was a German deli. What potato salad and cold cuts they had. My mouth is watering!!!
Do you have delicatessen's/diners where you live now???

One would think in a heavily touristed place like Saratoga Springs, New York, there'd be a good deli somewhere nearby, but no such thing....The salads are mediocre at best and have to be "doctored", and it's better to do homemade. Walmart's salad is atrocious, I warn you, if none of you have had it....no taste and seems like it's made up of cornstarch mostly. Nasty biz. The delis in the Bronx were the best....Witkins on E. 180th Street and the West Farms Deli under the El on Boston road....two distinctly different styles of salads but excellent. Thanks for the memories. God bless. kris

I specifically remember that German Deli. It was right across the street from the Carvel that my uncle owned and that I worked at as a teenager in the mid 1970s. Although I’m not particularly a potato salad guy, I remember people raved about it. But they made great deli sandwiches there as well.

My Father was in the Kosher meat business. He sold meat to Wilkins, They also had another store on Saint Nicholas Avenue.
