Yesterday afternoon my boss said she wanted to cut my hours to 5 a day. I am not able to make ends meet with 7 hours a day with what they are paying me. Guess I have to broaden my horizons and apply for jobs further away. i have been selective recently because I am employed and the gas prices are high, but if need be I guess I will have to travel. NOT FAIR - I'M TOO OLD FOR THIS SH-T. THESE SHOULD BE MY GOLDEN YEARS - HAPPY JOB FOR THE NEXT FOUR YEARS UNTIL I CAN COLLECT SS. I am not a happy camper.

Wheezie, I hope you are able to find something. Age discrimination is firmly in place out there for folks over 55.

Do you have anyone in your network that can provide you assistance in job search? You might want to use one of the web sites for older folks...believe it not, 40 and over..... they have some sites for job search. Also, AARP provides some assistance even though I don't agree with their politics. You can also search for companies locally on the net by corporate name and try to find openings that you can consider. Wish I knew your area I would be happy to help you with a search.
God bless and keep your chin up. I will pray that things work out for you.

Wheezie, this is a stab in the dark, but thought I'd mention it anyway... you might consider the option of taking 2 or 3 part-time jobs, possibly as a sub-contractor, doing what you are doing now for one company. I have the impression that your background and skills could be useful to a lot of small businesses (restaurants, auto dealers, etc) that may not need full time support. Maybe charge on fee basis rather than hourly. Maybe even do some of it from home. You need to charge enough to make up for the loss of benefits. Might be worth considering.
I know a few people (my wife included, sort of) doing this and it seems to work for them.
Good luck.

Well, I went to work the same time as usual today, and as I was about to leave, the boss called me in and said "Well, tomorrow you have to start the new hours." I practically begged her not to start my part time status until next week because I won't be paid for 4th of July. So next Monday, my hours will be 10 to 4 - with no lunch, or 9 to 4 with an hour lunch, or 9:30 to 4 with 1/2 hour lunch. Up to me I guess. She said she would be OK with 6 hours instead of 5.
When you figure out the truth of the matter, she has no intention of paying the agency I work for, so why not not pay them for 35 hours??? (hope the double negative makes sense).

How much time does this give you to search for something new before your position goes away altogether?

Mike - I've been searching for quite some time now. There's just nothing out there now in my area. I think I will be collecting unemployment in about two to three weeks, but as soon as the temporary agency finds out they are responsible for the unemployment I am sure they will find me a new job.
