The grass is growing, the doors have been closed for years, and yet the last customer is still waiting at Howard Johnson's. Why did we keep going back? Could it have been the pistachio ice cream? One of our favorite places to go after the Whitestone Drive-in.

Wheezie..................after the Whitestone drive-in, we would go to White Castle. Liked those hamburgers and their donuts too.
I have a feeling we must have been in the same places at the same time.
There is a hot dog stand out here called "Arnie's". My husband worked there 40 years ago. Can't believe they are still in business. The franks are delicious. They put onions, mustard, relish and a peppergini (spelling ?)on top and serve with french fries. They have a kick to them!

White Castle on Castle Hill? I had to pass that walking to school every day. Did you ever go to the Frozen Custard place on Castle Hill near Bruckner Blvd? I'm sure we were in the same place at the same time. A few years ago, a "new" friend was describing an incident at Orchard Beach, and WOW, I was there that day!!!!!!!!

:)Yes, Wheezie, White Castle on Castle Hill Avenue. I don't think I was ever at the ice cream place, but went to Orchard Beach all the time. That was the place to go!

I remember a White Castle near the Bronx entrance to the Whitestone Bridge. A favorite hang out for St. Helena HS kids. Eleven cents a burger, or was it nine cents?

Marylou - I think you are remembering the Howard Johnson's which was near the Whitestone Bridge entrance. I don't remember a White Castle there.
