Happy Victory in Europe Day, 8 May 1945.
We don't seem to make a big deal of it here, but Europe does (or did) make a pretty good party of it. I was in the small town of Farnham, south-west of London, years ago (1985ish), trying to buy my wife a gift in a candy store. The older guy behind the counter heard my accent and came running out to hug me! Praised the Americans who came to help win the war. He gave me a big box of chocolates to send her. I'd never seen anything like it - just because I was an American.
I did like working with the Brits.
This is the B-17 "Sentimental Journey" (she actually flew in the Pacific Theater, but the best I had handy).
