What was the very best of them all that you remember.....November 26, 1970, I brought Jan home to meet my family for the first time. She was from West Virginia and the Big Apple was quite a culture shock for her. We were married the next day (27th) in Baltimore before reporting back to the Base. Next Tuesday will be 37 years!! ;D

Our best Thanksgiving was the one when Mickey, me and the kids joined others from church and went to the St. Vincent de Paul Soup Kitchen to serve food on the line for the homeless.
Not so much for me and Mickey, but to see the kids serving the food to the tables really allowed them to see that not everyone was as fortunate as they were. We also joined the homeless for dinner. Men, women and children, young and old alike. Not all leeches on society, but ordinary folks just down on their luck. Some were laid off from work, others just hurting financially.
It was a great lesson for the kids to see other kids with no home or food to eat.
At days end, we understood the meaning of the phrase....."There but for the grace of God, go we."
Truly a Thanksgiving Day!

:)I think my best Thanksgivings were when I lived in the Bronx with the kids and would travel Upstate (just before Monticello) to see my in-laws. They lived on a lake in a rustic house. The fireplace would always be going as it would always be cold, and the kids and I would all sing on the way up "Over the River and Thru the Woods to Grandma's House We Go". My Mother-in-Law was a great cook and I don't think I ever tasted a better turkey, stuffing and all the trimmings. There have been other great Thanksgivings, but I think my girls and myself remember those times the most.
