Autumn in the Bronx meant cooler weather after a long hot summer. The trees in Crotona Park and Echo Park and the trees that lines the streets all changed colors as the leaves fell to the ground leaving bare branches for winter snow to gather upon. Autumn meant Costumes, Pumpkins and trick or treating with lots of candy and chasing after the girls with a sock full of powdered chalk. This special time of year meant that just over the horizon was Thanksgiving with dinner for the whole family sitting around the table eating the traditional turkey and all the trimmings with the most exciting time of year to look forward to...CHRISTMAS! The decorations, the lights, the Christmas Trees and presents to look forward to giving and receiving.
I suppose Autumn and Christmas meant the same to kids all over, but for us kids from the Bronx it was our very own special time of year to enjoy, cherish and commit to lifelong memory.

Lenny, as I'm fond of saying...there is only one thing better than Autumn in the Bronx and that is........Christmas in Rock Center!

Oh Yeah................Rockerfeller Center. Every Christmas it was a tradition for mom and dad to take us kids to see Macy's windows all decorated with animated figures and to see Santa inside. Then to Radio City Music Hall to see the Rockettes and then to the center to see the big tree and ice skate to the music. I can just smell the chestnuts roasting on the corners and the evening was always topped off with a visit to St. Patricks Cathedral. This was always the best part of the holiday for us.
