On the news was this 100 year old house being moved on a barge on the Manatee River to it's new location. It's amazing how they can move such a large object off it's foundation onto a barge and floated on a river without breaking apart.

It is amazing. But what I find even more amazing is that the cost of moving such a house is worth the cost. It makes sense for structures with some with historic significance, (like Poe Cottage, and the Valentine-Varian house, in the BX). I would think that you would have to really sharpen your pencil to make the numbers work for an old, run-of-the-mill home. I'd bet that the costs start at over $100K for house like the one in your photo (just guessing, I've never really looked into it). And then you'd have an old house, that has seen a lot of stress, on a different lot. I guess if you really loved the place...... Ever see them move the shuttle to the launch pad?
