Just happened to stumble upon this thread, I grew up in the Bronx since having moved there when i was 6 months old in 1967 , and returned to live there after College / travel ,from 1992-2003. When i look at average eras on the thread seems like most people are from the 50s ?So i guess our generation was the bridge generation ? Those of us who are now in our 50s have distinct memories of what the previous generation grew up with , sadly many of the places that we loved as kids are no longer there .I lived in two neighborhoods growing up , Undercliff Ave and 176th street then the fort independence area right by the "RES", short for reservoir . So in our generation the Bronx was coined " the boogie down Bronx ", we still had Lowes Paradise on the GCC just south of Fordham , we still had RKO Fordham , I remember our Mom taking us there to see the movie " Grease " and at the beginning of the movie someone fired off a roman candle right in the theater , no one left the theater , it did not even occur to us that what now seems so dangerous was the norm back then...... so many many things that were considered "normal" back then are for good reason labeled as "dangerous" now , and have proven to save lives ie bike helmets , and seat belts . Ok we remember the Valentine theater , how about the " ART " theater located at Jerome ave and tremont which was lesser known than the Fordham theaters, my Dad took me there to see Bruce Lee movies " enter the dragon " and " return of the dragon ". The games we played were also still the games our predecessors played , ringalivio ....this is unique to our era as well as those previous to us anyone born after 1990 definitely not !How about, stickball of course , off the point, skelly,on the basketball courts " 21" , or making a go cart out of scrap wood you found,, a dairylea milk crate ,and some wheels from a thrown out baby carriage, then some rope you found to steer it ? So so many things to write to add to this rich tapestry of memories that we Bronx peeps are proud of . Ok quick list , Alexanders Fordham road , Krums on GCC across from lowes , woolworths across from RKO fordham , VIM on fordham, how bout Crazy Eddies on Fordham , how bout " Robbins " on fordham, how bout DR Js ON FORDHAM near webster, how bout Roberto Clemente State Park , quick test if you grew up in the Bronx in the 70s " what does FLAG day mean to you " ? For those of us from that era who survived please add to this thread ! Boogie Down Bronx stand up ! All LOVE TO BRONX PEEPS of All ERAS !
